What you CAN’T take inside the Colosseum

On the official website of the Colosseum, you can find a bunch of prohibited items, but they’re not in one specific area of the website, so, to help you avoid trouble, I put it all together.

Inside the monument it is strictly forbidden to enter with:

  • Backpacks, handbags and luggage
  • bottles and glasses containers
  • alcholic beverages
  • aerosols
  • firearms, ammo
  • ilegals substances
  • flammable liquids and Explosives
  • knives (I believe that includes multitools)

As far as I know, you are allowed to enter with drones, but it’s never too much of a problem to check that out.

hbI think the same about hover boards, but, please, if it isn’t forbiden, don’t take yours. Not only it’s a historical place, but it’s too crowded for you to hover around…

If you go with a bag that is too large you will be denied entry. This can be a huge issue if you have a tour booked and show up with a bag that is too large.

Reports are that they are letting small handbags inside, but this is a judgement call being made by the guards.

All bags are inspected before getting inside.

“For security reasons all visitors and their luggage shall be screened. To facilitate the security checks please insert any object (including mobile phone) in the bag/backpack or in the tray to be included in the X-ray.”

This information above is on the official website of the Colosseum.

Thanks for reading, I hope to have helped you and if you have any doubts, please, tell me in the comments bellow and I’ll answer them.

    1. Thank you for the info. I believe it may have something to do with the security team at the time… I went in July 2016 and saw people in front of me being asked to leave because of the size of a medium shoulder bag.
